Our customers always have a host of questions before embarking on a laser hair removal treatment. These questions range from how does it work and how long does it last to how much does it cost and does it hurt?

So, we thought we’d take this opportunity to answer some of these questions and share them on our website, for anyone considering laser hair removal treatment in the future.

How Does Laser Hair Removal Treatment Work?

Simply put, lasers used for hair removal damage or destroy the hair follicle.   The lasers use light to target the pigment in individual hairs, travelling down the shaft of the hair and into the hair follicle.

The heat from the laser light destroys the hair follicle, so a hair can no longer grow from it.

Is Laser Hair Removal Permanent?

When a hair follicle is completely destroyed by a laser, it will not grow back. However, sometimes people who undergo this treatment can expect some hair to grow back.

Hair follows a unique growth cycle that involves resting, shedding, and growing periods. Hair that is in a resting phase will not be visible to the technician or laser, so you may need to wait until it regrows before further treatment.

That’s why, for many people, laser hair removal requires several treatments over the course of 2 to 3 months.  Over time, it is possible to treat the area again to reduce the number of hairs that regrow.

Most people find that when hair regrows, it is lighter and less noticeable than it was before. This is because the laser may damage the hair follicle even when it fails to destroy it.

Does Laser Hair Removal Work for Everyone?

In most instances yes it does.  However, when the hair lighter in colour than the skin, the follicles cannot be picked up by the laser.  But IPL hair removal is very effective on most hair and skin types.

In cases of hormonal facial hair, though the laser treatment will remove the hair short term; the hormones will continue to produce the hair (so ongoing treatments will be required).  For clients who have been diagnosed with a medical condition, such as polycystic ovaries, we offer discounts.

Does Laser Hair Removal Hurt?

The general consensus is that laser hair removal hurts less than waxing. It’s often compared to being snapped by a rubber band. But it’s also largely based on your personal pain tolerance and the area of the body being lasered.

Numbing cream can be applied before the treatment or you can take an over-the-counter painkiller.

How Much does Laser Hair Removal Cost?

The cost of hair removal will depend on the size of the area being treated and the number of treatments required.  At the Cosmetik Clinic our prices range from £35 for laser hair removal on the hands or feet to £180 for a men’s full back. Packages are also available for ongoing treatments.
